Pack with me - a list of things to bring when going out with a baby

If you're planning to go out with your baby, you might be wondering what to pack in your diaper bag. Here are some essential items that will make your outing easier and more comfortable for both of you.

Packit cooler bag

This cooler bag is a great way to store your expressed breastmilk and keep it chilled for up to 3 hours. The instructions said that you don't need any ice packs, just freeze the bag overnight and it's ready to go. However, I always add on free ice packs from Don Don Donki to make sure it lasts for about 6 hours. It can fit up to 4x 160ml milk bottles.

Skip Hop insulated jar

When your baby is hungry, you can use this handy jar to store hot water and then reheat the milk in minutes. It has a stainless steel interior that keeps the water hot and a silicone seal that prevents spills. You can use it with any standard bottle or pouch.

Wet bags

These are reusable bags that are waterproof and leak-proof. You can use one to store your clean clothes and another one for the soiled ones. They are easy to wash and dry, and they come in various sizes and designs. They are also useful for storing wet swimsuits, towels, bibs, etc. I have many of these as they are just so useful, even for storing breast pump parts

Diapers

Of course, you can't forget the diapers. Depending on how long you'll be out, you might need to pack a few extra ones. You can choose between disposable or cloth diapers, depending on your preference and budget. Make sure you have the right size and fit for your baby. I always carry the free diaper samples out because they are already in small handy packs.

Diaper cream

This is a must-have item to prevent and treat diaper rash. It helps to soothe and protect your baby's skin from irritation and infection. You can apply it at every diaper change or as needed. There are many types of diaper creams available, I've been using Mustela diaper cream since baby was born. Try and see what works for your LO!

Muslin cloth

This is a versatile item that can serve multiple purposes. You can use it to cover your baby when nursing or sleeping, to put on the stroller as a shade, to wipe up spills or drools, to swaddle your baby, etc. It is soft, breathable, and lightweight, and it comes in various colors and patterns.

Diaper changing mat

This is a convenient way to change your baby's diaper when you're out and about. It provides a clean and comfortable surface for your baby to lie on, and it folds up easily into a compact size. Some mats have pockets or compartments to store wipes, diapers, creams, etc. I've seen mummies change their babies' diaper on a stroller when the changing room is packed.

Wet wipes

These are essential for cleaning your baby's bottom, hands, face, and anything else that might get dirty. They are gentle on your baby's skin and have a mild scent or fragrance-free. You can also use them to wipe down surfaces, toys, pacifiers, etc. Oldam is one of my favourite go-to wipes brand!

Baby's milk bottle

If you're feeding your baby with formula or expressed breastmilk, you'll need to pack a bottle or two. Make sure they are clean and sterilized before you leave the house. You can also bring a bottle brush and some dish soap to wash them after use.

High chair cover

I just got this after my baby started solids and I found it really useful. Not sure if it's just me but sometimes I find the high chairs in restaurants not really cleaned properly as kids can be super messy when eating, so I prefer to put this cover on the high chair before baby sits on it. It's waterproof and really compact making it easy to bring around. Also if your baby makes a mess, you can wrap everything up and clean at home, win-win for you and the restaurant!

Stroller fan

In Singapore's hot and humid weather, remember to bring a stroller fan if you plan to head outdoors like parks or the beach. This is something I often forget to bring along (and regret) as I use the same clip fan on my work desk. I probably should buy a second one.😅

Mosquito repellent

You can use either patches that stick on your baby's clothes or those applied on baby directly. Personally I use minyak telon containing eucalyptus as it can also be used as a baby massage oil. Either way, it's good to have some handy especially at parks and dengue is fairly common in Singapore

****

These are some of the things that you might want to bring when going out with your baby. Of course, you can adjust the list according to your needs and preferences, if you are using formula, get a milk powder storage container and you don't need the Packit cooler bag. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy your time with your little one!

I've been using the Jujube BFF Tokidoki diaper bag for going out. Stay tuned as I'll be reviewing this bag in another post very soon. ;)  You can usually get it for <$200 on Lazada.
